Jonah Rabinowitz

Jonah has been the Executive Director of W.O. Smith/Nashville Community Music School since 1995. As a musician, Jonah received his training at the Manhattan School of Music and then attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance while studying with Charles Schleuter, principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Jonah’s performing career includes positions as the principal trumpet of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic, principal trumpet of the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, Atlanta Opera, and performances and recordings with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
He has also been a faculty member at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta. He is the former Director of the Georgia Academy of Music in Atlanta. Jonah was president of Tennesseans for the Arts, Tennessee’s leading arts advocacy group in 2011-2012, is a member of the steering committee for the Nashville Arts Coalition in addition to having served as a member of Mayor Karl Dean’s Music City Music Council.
Jonah was the recipient of the 2011 Edwina Hefner Community Leadership Award from the Nashville Symphony and the 2011 Governor’s Arts Award for Leadership from TN Governor Haslam and the Tennessee Arts Commission.
Jonah is a graduate of Leadership Music class of 1998 and Leadership Nashville in 2013 where he continues to serve as a member of the logistics team for the class of 2014.
